How do buyers calculate ROI?
Buyers calculate ROI by relating the purchase price to future cash flows. ROI = annual cash flow divided by the purchase price. The inverse of the ROI is the payback period: the number of years required to recoup the investment. Payback period = purchase price divided by annual cash flow. The shorter the payback period, the more attractive the deal. Sector and risk also determine the desired ROI.
