What are hidden reserves?

Hidden reserves are values that exist economically but are not, or not fully, included in the balance sheet because assets are valued at historical cost.
Examples include real estate, machinery, or inventories where the market value exceeds the book value.
Buyers include these hidden reserves in their total valuation, even if they are not explicitly visible on the balance sheet.
